Since I re-created my Plex server, I have been spending time watching some of my favorite films.
Today is Breakfast at Tiffiany’s.
I am not sure why I like this movie, but it does tickle me, and thus I have a blu-ray of it that I have ripped and loaded onto my Plex server.
There is something about the romantic interplay between Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, both are fairly unsympathetic characters with huge flaws, but in the end they work it all out.
No, it is none of that that is driving this post. It is the shit-show that is the Mr Yunioshi’s character, played by Mickey Rooney.
Seriously, what the fuck were they thinking, casting Rooney to play this character in yellow-face? Yes, I know 1961 was a different time, and a lot of dodgy shit was happening (Mad Men, hello,) but damn, this is offensive, and a blot on what is otherwise a fabulous film.
It is just so … OFFENSIVE
